Looking For A New Flat

When you are looking for a new place to move to, there are a lot of important considerations that you need to consider aside from looking for a great place at the right affordable price. With danger maybe lurking just right around the corner, we want to feel secure not only in the comfort of our own homes but around the neighborhood as well. Here are some things that you need to check before moving in.

First and foremost, it is very important for you to evaluate the neighborhood where your prospective flat is situated. Check around the vicinity and ask around regarding crime rates if any and the safety and security of the neighborhood whether at day or night time.

Take a look as well at the parking area in case you have a vehicle. Is the area guarded? Consider the distance you need to walk from the parking area to your flat unit. If parking is on the street, is it safe?

Observe if the streets are well lighted. Check as well if you have good lighting in your apartment.

If you will be taking public transportation and you need to walk some distance to get to it, ensure that the route is safe especially at night. Pay close attention to the people around you. Are there lots of pedestrians whom you could seek for help to in case you experience any trouble?

Check your neighborhoods 24 hour convenience shop. Be friends and get to know your future neighbors who could be of help in case of any trouble and problems.

It is very important to have a list of important numbers and addresses of the nearest police station, fire station, hospital, etc. in case of untoward incidents or emergencies.

Be very cautious of suspicious looking individuals that may be hanging around the area or neighborhood; most especially if the surrounding neighbors don’t know them or the reason they are hanging about. If the situation requires, report them to the authorities.

Do not just leave your keys anywhere. There is a tendency for some people to leave duplicates under the floor mat, near the flower pot or the fire hose, etc. Create duplicates but secure them in a safe place like maybe a container with a combination lock. If you were to label your keys, color coding would be ideal instead of labeling them with your address or what the key is for.

Always put another lock on the front door as well as on your bedroom door.

When taking an elevator ride, avoid being in the same elevator with only one other person especially if you do not know that person. Stay near the elevator buttons. Trust your guts. If you have an uneasy feeling, get out as soon as possible or immediately. In case of trouble don’t stop the elevator and instead press all the buttons to make it stop on every floor. You could run out and scream for help.
